Yes! Especially in today’s competitive job market.
𝗪𝗵𝘆?
🔹 A thank-you note helps you stand out and shows you are willing to go the extra mile.
🔹 Especially if you interviewed with the hiring manager, a follow-up note reiterates your enthusiasm for the role. Without it, they may question your interest.
🔹 It is an opportunity to remind them of your skills and align them with the role, clarify any points from the interview, and show how you fit their needs.
🔹 A thank-you serves as a gentle reminder of your candidacy.
𝗛𝗼𝘄 & 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝘁
📧 Send it by 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹—in our hybrid/remote world, handwritten notes are not ideal.
⏰ Timing matters:
🔹 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 (𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄). Send within 3-4 hours—this shows promptness, not pushiness.
🔹 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄). Send it first thing. This avoids getting lost in end-of-day emails.
🔹 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀/𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀. Late Friday interviews? Send it Monday morning so it won’t get buried.
❗ If you are sure the role is not for you, no need to send the note. But if you are in the running, not sending a thank you note could raise doubts about your interest.
